Transferring and exchanging
We have developed a range of ways to help you move home.
Incentive to move
The 'Incentive to move' scheme enables residents living in Twynham owned homes who are living in a property which is too big for them, to move into a smaller property.
We recognise that we do not have enough family-sized homes in our areas (homes that have more than two bedrooms). To try and increase the number of larger-sized homes that become empty each year, we offer to help you move to a smaller home if you want to. Under the Incentive to Move Scheme, we can offer you up to £3000 to help you move.
If you qualify for the scheme we will help:
- cover the costs of your removals
- disconnect and reconnect your electrical and gas supplies
- disconnect your electrical, gas and other essential appliances such as washing machines and reconnect in your new home
- transfer your phone
- redirect your mail
- refit your television aerial and satellite dish
- remove, alter and refit soft furnishings (for example, flooring, curtains, blinds and curtain rails).
Unfortunately at the moment this scheme is not available to residents living in the homes we manage for Sovereign Housing Association.
Mutual exchanges
A mutual exchange is where you exchange your home with another of our tenants or with a tenant of another housing association or local authority.
We keep a list of residents looking to exchange their homes in our offices at Dolphin House. If you currently have a probationary tenancy, you do not have the right to exchange your home.
Before you can exchange your home, you must first get permission in writing from us. In some circumstances we may set certain conditions before giving permission for the exchange to go ahead, these may include:
- clearing your rent account, if you are in arrears
- repairing any damage you may have caused to your home
- not allowing exchanges where the property will be too large or too small for the proposed tenant, or
- not allowing exchanges where the home has been adapted and the proposed tenant does not require an adapted home.
If you want to move, we will help you find another tenant you can swap homes with. If you would like to know more about how you can swap your home with someone else, please speak to your resident services officer.
