Renting a home
Our allocations and lettings officers deal with:
- allocating and letting homes
- working with our property services team to confirm and inspect maintenance and refurbishment work
- dealing with nomination requests from local authorities for empty homes
- looking after residents who want to end their tenancy
- offering properties, and
- arranging viewings and sign-ups for new tenancies.
We work very closely with local councils and specialist organisations. They refer future residents to us through common housing needs registers and choice-based lettings schemes. If you need a home it is best to register with your local council as early as possible.
You can apply for a home in the areas where we own and manage properties through the following organisations.
- Christchurch Borough Council
- Bournemouth Borough Council
- East Dorset District Council
- Eastleigh Borough Council
- Fareham Borough Council
- Havant Borough Council
- New Forest District Council
- North Dorset District Council
- Poole Housing Partnership
- Portsmouth City Council
- Purbeck Housing Trust
- Weymouth & Portland Housing
- West Dorset District Council
We do not discriminate against anyone who applies for housing.
Probationary tenancies
We give all new tenants a probationary tenancy for a 'trial' period of 12 months. We use probationary tenancies to help us manage problems that may arise during the first 12 months of the tenancy, such as rent arrears and antisocial behaviour. During this period we will help you understand and keep to the conditions of your tenancy agreement. If you do not meet the conditions of your tenancy during this trial period then we may ask a court for permission to evict you.
At the end of the 12 month period, provided we have not taken steps to end your tenancy, it will become an assured tenancy. Alternatively we could decide to extend the initial 12 month trial period, in which case your tenancy will remain a probationary tenancy for as long as the extension lasts.
